Prior studies have investigated the impact of ethanol on changes in the activity and levels of oxidative enzymes. Catalase activity is significantly increased in postmortem heart samples acquired from people who have been diagnosed with ACM. Other studies investigated the catalase levels and activity among rats with ACM with a control group.

Diastolic heart failure is typically treated with the same medical regimen as systolic heart failure.
LIMITATIONS OF ACM STUDIES
Although there is beneficial potential in some patients, the coexistence of increased risk of cancer, neurological brain damage, and the high risk of ethanol addiction makes it necessary to discourage this low-dose consumption in the general population [19,41,45]. Specific caution should be recommended regarding children or adolescents [4] and women [46], who are more susceptible to the damaging effects of ethanol at the same doses of consumption as men. Similarly, patients suffering from other ethanol-related diseases such as liver cirrhosis or brain atrophy should completely suppress their ethanol consumption [47,48]. Therefore, the only safe ethanol dose for the cardiovascular system is zero [41,45,49,50,51]. They may admit drinking at social events but not the abuse in the first contact.

It was suspected that malnutrition, frequently related to chronic alcohol misuse, was the origin of ACM [6,67]. However, it has been evidenced that ACM may develop in the absence of protein or caloric malnutrition [38]. alcoholic cardiomyopathy However, nutritional factors may worsen the natural course of ACM and should be avoided [18,19]. It has been said that ethanol is the “perfect drug” because of its pleasant effects but damaging long-term effect [1,6].

Acute vs. chronic
In 2001 we updated the data on the ambivalent relationship between alcohol and the heart [19] and in 2008 added new evidence on a larger cohort of patients with different forms of cardiomyopathy and increased alcohol intake from the German competence network on heart failure [20]. Some diseases do not have a uniformly static expression but evolve as a consequence of remodeling from one category to another during their natural clinical course and can progress from a nondilated state to a dilated form. Although phenotypically different from DCM, some patients with ARVC, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and LVNC subsequently develop dilated ventricles. Therefore, in this section, we will review the current genetic knowledge of each DCM. We will also review other cardiomyopathies such as ARVC and LVNC, which are not considered predominantly as DCM and have other distinct phenotypic characteristics but which can develop DCM features. Athletes, especially those who follow intense training regimens, may develop changes in cardiac structure as a normal physiologic response.

Moreover, alcohol may reduce the levels of transport proteins and diminish antioxidant activity by decreasing the plasma concentration of antioxidant enzymes. These mechanisms contribute to the development of oxidative stress, which is responsible for the onset of cardiomyopathies and ischemia-reperfusion injury. The preponderance of data suggests that drinking one to two drinks in men and one drink in women will benefit the cardiovascular system over time.
